UNITED NATIONS
  • UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS
    As early as 1959, the International Commission Jurists, an NGO with consultative status to the United Nations, was able to prove that in Tibet China was in violation of 16 Articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: Articles 3, 5, 9, 10, 11, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, and 25. Ngawang Phulchung was sentenced to 19 years imprisonment for translating the Universal Declaration into Tibetan.
